UTA Head Coach Scott Cross
Opening thoughts on the win: "It is great. We haven't had three wins in a row in conference, so having momentum going into the conference tournament is awesome. Our last two games were two of our best games. We played the right way today and Texas State was hot, they are a great defensive team. We had success offensively. Obviously the shot that Kevin Hervey made at the end of the game was absolutely amazing. It wasn't anything I drew up, we just got it cleared out and you just need big time players making big time plays"
On beating a rival: "The first one they deserved to win, and in this one we had an eight-point lead. They hit three 3-pointers in a row and they just hit shots against us. They are a good basketball team. They have hit a spell of bad luck with things going another direction. In the early part of the season they were winning those close games and can beat anyone in the tournament.
On going into the tournament with momentum: "I wanted to be able to go there with our guys having their chest out and not walk in with their tail between their legs. Our guys have the confidence. In any tournament you have to be playing with confidence. On the flip side of that our guys have to approach practice like we just got our butts whooped. We have to stay focused and go in playing our best."
UTA senior Kevin Hervey
On the game winner: "I was smiling towards the end because it was the first time I had hit a last shot. I had not hit a shot all game but my teammates had faith in me and I had faith in myself."
Beating the in-state rival: "These guys are rivals and it always feels good to win, but it feels better to get a win on the road. This is only our second on the road in conference. It is really good for us and we got three wins in a row going into the conference tournament."
