UT Dallas 53, UT Arlington 73
Monday, November 27, 2017 - College Park Center
UTA Head Coach Scott Cross
"That definitely wasn't one of our better performances of the year. We did some halfway decent things defensively, Kaelon Wilson did some great things in transition. Johnny Hamilton had some nice blocks and rebounds, but we gave up way too many offensive rebounds, we turned the ball over way too much. We have to continue to get better in those two areas as well as defensively.
" I'm happy that we got the win. We have a big week ahead with Rice and North Texas. We just got to take them one at a time. I know our guys are probably a little bit beaten down. Seeing how we have played four games in basically a week and been flying all over the country. So, I know it's been a tough week for them. We have to turn around and practice again in the morning before they have classes. It's been a grind on these guys, but that's part of it. We just have to focus on getting better and hopefully when we step out onto the floor on Wednesday we will be a little bit better.
"Both Kevin Hervey and Link Kabadyundi just need a little extra rest. Both of them have had knee surgeries. We felt like we needed to give them a little bit of extra rest so they will be refreshed on Wednesday. Hopefully they'll have a little bit more energy and be ready to go and help us out on Wednesday."
"I haven't watched any film on (Rice) yet. I know they're going to be well coached just like any division one basketball team. You have to treat it the same way. It doesn't matter who we're playing whether it's Alabama, UT Dallas, Rice it doesn't matter. We have to make the right play over the course of the 40 minutes on both ends of the floors. When this team just plays the game the right way, it's a really special basketball team. They got to be locked in mentally every single time we step foot on the floor. We have to continue to get better we can't stay the same or we will not reach our full potential."
On Eric Neal this season: "He has definitely improved on the pick and roll. Today he was forcing a little bit. He just gotta play the game and read the defense, but man he was on top of it. He is phenomenal making the right read and getting the ball in tight spaces. I think that's why Johnny Hamilton has been so successful. Eric's giving him the ball right next to the basket. That's why Hervey has been able to score a lot of points. Hervey can create it on his own, but he also gets some easy buckets where Eric just drops off a pass from a pick and roll. Eric could be one of the greatest defenders in all of college basketball, but he's got to be locked in mentally in order to do that."
UTA Senior Forward Julian Harris
On the game: "It felt good. I was really tired out there, I'm not going to lie. I just wanted to bring energy and help my team out."
On playing UT Dallas after a long week of traveling: "Just staying focused. You can't just take them lightly, and we try not to do that."
On preparation for the upcoming games against Rice and North Texas: "Rebounding. We didn't rebound to well today. We got to work on that and defense."
On his hand injury: "I got a little motion. I got to continue working on that, but there's not that much pain or anything."
UT Dallas Head Coach Terry Butterfield "I think that UTA is poised to have a great season at the highest levels. It it is a long shot for a division lll program like ours to come in here and I'm pleased with the way our guys competed. I know they had some guys out tonight and I'm sure that changed the picture a little bit for them. But, nonetheless we told our kids we wanted them to play a quality possession on every possession. I think our kids battled and I think you see the results of a strong Division l contender going up against a Division lll."
