“LMU has a really good team. They have played some really good teams on their schedule and they have played a lot of close games. We knew it would be a tough game. We just tried to come in here and get a win. We knew they were going to make shots (down the stretch). They were hot pretty much the entire second half. We knew anytime we had the opportunity to make a wide open shot, we needed to take it and shoot it with confidence. Drew (Charles) made a great shot. That is what won the game for us. It was really key for us.
“It is great that we can go into our Sun Belt schedule in a groove. We are in a rhythm right now. It is good that we can go into our Sun Belt opener on Dec. 31 in a positive frame of mind and confident that we can be successful.
“I had the game on my mind prior to tonight. Now, I have Christmas on my mind. I am looking forward to spending time with my family and enjoying the holiday. It will be a lot better since we are going into the break with a win.”
UTA Guard Drew Charles
“We knew it was going to be tooth and nail down to the last second. It was a close game. All of Loyola Marymount’s games have been close so they know what to do in those situations. Luckily we got some key stops. That was they key thing. We got some stops in the end.
“Getting a close win tonight showed a lot of character for our team. We got hit in the mouth several times tonight. We just kept at it. We have a tough mentality. It doesn’t matter how many times you get knocked down. It matters how many times you get back up.”
