ARLINGTON, Texas – UT Arlington returns to Western Athletic Conference play Saturday night at 7 p.m. against Louisiana Tech at College Park Center. The Mavericks are 6-5 overall, 1-1 in the WAC and 2-3 at home. The Bulldogs are 11-3 and 2-0.

It’s the last in a stretch of four consecutive games at CPC, with three being conference games. The Mavericks are on a season-high two-game losing streak and have lost three of four overall. UT Arlington is 26-9 in their last 35 games dating back to last season and 6-3 all-time at CPC.

This marks the 31st ever meeting between the schools. The Bulldogs lead the series 22-8. UTA won the last meeting, 68-61, last season in Arlington on Nov. 19, 2011. Mavericks coach Scott Cross is 1-1 in his career against La Tech.

"It's a huge game for us," Cross said. "Our backs are against the wall. You can't lose two games in a row in conference at home. We have to come out swinging."

UTA is one of the nation’s stingiest defensive units. The Mavs are fourth in the country and first in the WAC in defensive field-goal percentage, according to the latest NCAA Rankings. UTA has held eight of 11 opponents to less than 40-percent shooting: CSUB (26.6%), Oklahoma (32.8%), Samford (37.3%), North Texas (31.0%), UTPA (32.7%), HBU (30.9%), NMSU (33.3%) and Denver (37.8%).

UTA is 59-17 at home since the start of the 2007-08 season, which includes going 12-1 last season. That’s the second-most home wins in a season in school history. UTA has posted 18 consecutive non-losing seasons at home. The last time UTA had a losing record at home was 1993-94 (5-7).

For the last two games, the Mavericks haven’t had a player score in double figures. Karol Gruszecki had a team-high 8 points against Denver, while Gruszecki and Brandon Edwards had nine each against Boise State. UTA had at least one player in double figures in the previous nine games.

UTA-La Tech is on 730 AM in the DFW Metroplex. Russell Scott and Doug Anderson call the action. UTARadio.com has an online broadcast. Gametracker is available via utamavs.com.
