Texas Trust Scholar Athlete of the Week

Jan. 16, 2018

ARLINGTON, Texas - Each week, the UTA Athletic Department spotlights a Texas Trust Scholar-Athlete of the Week to showcase the excellence in academic achievement of its student-athletes. This week, we honor Scott Muirhead of UTA Men’s Basketball.

A native of nearby Ennis, Muirhead is more commonly known by UTA basketball fans as “Bill” Muirhead rather than his given name of Scott. He was handed the nickname by teammate Kennedy Eubanks as a freshman and it stuck.

Muirhead is a junior guard who has appeared in 30 games during his career, including 11 this season. With a 39.4 career 3-point shooting percentage, he is one of the team’s top long range shooters. Of Muirhead’s 14 career baskets, 13 have come from behind the 3-point arc.

An accounting/finance major, Scott is the son of Joe and Claudia Muirhead. He lettered all four seasons at Ennis High School and averaged 18 points and 5 rebounds a game as a senior.

The Sun Belt Conference preseason favorite UTA men’s basketball team hosts Louisiana rivals this weekend at College Park Center. The Mavericks welcome the Ragin’ Cajuns of Louisiana Thursday night at 7:15 p.m. then host ULM on Saturday at 4:15 p.m.
