UT Arlington looks for its first winning streak since the first two games of the season when the Mavericks travel to Stephen F. Austin Saturday for the 50th meeting in the series dating back to 1959.
UTA has not won back-to-back games since wins over Texas-Tyler and North Texas.
UTA (6-13, 2-5) shocked Sam Houston State 78-65 on Thursday night at Texas Hall. The Bearkats, ranked 23rd on the collegeinsider.com mid-major poll, were out rebounded 45-30 by the Mavs and UTA shot better than 50% (58.8%) from the field for the first time in league play.
The Mavs went with a small starting lineup with guards Rodrick Epps, Cardell Hunter and Ro'ger Guignard who combined for 28 points, 12 rebounds, seven assists and six steals.
Junior center Jermaine Griffin rebounded from two, sub-par games to post 18 points, 10 rebounds, four assists and four blocked shots in the win over the Bearkats.
S.F. Austin (12-6, 4-1) has won seven of eight games. The Lumberjacks only loss was a 55-52 setback to Sam Houston State.
UT Arlington returns to Texas Hall for a make-up game against Austin College on Tuesday at 7 p.m.
