MBB: Mavs to host UC Irvine in BracketBusters on Feb. 23
Feb. 4, 2013
Arlington, Texas - UT Arlington plays host to UC Irvine in the Ramada Worldwide BracketBusters on Feb. 23 at 5 p.m. at College Park Center. The Mavericks are currently 10-9 overall and 5-5 in the Western Athletic Conference. The Anteaters are 12-11 and 6-4 in the Big West.
This is the first meeting between UTA and UCI.
“It’s going to be an exciting game,” UT Arlington coach Scott Cross said. “They’ve beat some really good teams in USC and Fresno State. They’re a very good opponent. They’re going to play some great basketball and it’s going to be a challenge for our guys.
“A game like this continues to prepare you for the conference season, so I’m looking forward to the challenge.”
The Mavericks were on the road last year for BracketBusters, falling at Weber State. Having the game at College Park Center is a definite advantage, Cross said.
“The support helps out tremendously,” he said. “When there is energy in the building, our guys feed off of that. Kevin Butler is a player in particular that really gets going the more people are in the arena, and that gets our team going.
“Hopefully we’ll have a big crowd and build some momentum for the following week of conference.”
UT Arlington and the WAC are participating e in the 11th annual Ramada Worldwide BracketBusters event, a two-day men’s college basketball event pitting potential NCAA Championship hopefuls against each other Feb. 22-23. Six teams from the WAC will participate in this year’s BracketBuster event. Those teams are Utah State, Texas State, UTSA, Denver, UT Arlington and Idaho.
Tickets for UC Irvine game and all remaining home games are available at UTATickets.com. The Mavericks are in action this week at College Park Center, with WAC games against Texas State on Thursday and UTSA on Saturday. Tipoff for both is 7 p.m.
