MBB: Mavs start CPC stand with Texas State

ARLINGTON, Texas - UT Arlington is back home to face a pair of longtime rivals at College Park Center. The Mavericks welcome in Texas State on Thursday and UTSA on Saturday. Tipoff for Western Athletic Conference both games is 7 p.m.
UT Arlington has played three straight road games, going 2-1 over that stretch with wins at Utah State (75-68) and San Jose State (66-47) before falling at Louisiana Tech (64-51). UT Arlington is 10-9 overall and 5-5 in the WAC, while the Bobcats are 7-16 and 3-8.
UTA and Texas State met previously this season, with the Mavs prevailing 91-74 in San Marcos, Texas. The Mavericks are 2-6 at College Park Center. Texas State is 3-5 on the road. The Bobcats dropped a pair of home games last week.
This marks 58th meeting between UT Arlington and Texas State. The Bobcats lead the series 30-27. The Mavericks have won five of the last six meetings. UT Arlington coach Scott Cross is 8-5 against the Bobcats.
UT Arlington lost its lone game last week, a 64-51 setback at WAC leader Louisiana Tech. The loss snapped UT Arlington's two-game WAC winning streak. UTA also lost for the first time on the road (4-1) in the WAC this season. Junior forward Brandon Edwards paced UT Arlington with 17 points and nine rebounds against the Bulldogs.
UTA remains one of the nation's stingiest defensive units. The Mavs are ninth in the country and first in the WAC in defensive field-goal percentage at 37.1 percent. UTA has held 13 of 19 opponents to less than 40-percent shooting: CSUB (26.6%), Oklahoma (32.8%), Samford (37.3%), North Texas (31.0%), UTPA (32.7%), HBU (30.9%), NMSU (33.3%), Denver (37.8%), LA Tech (28.4% & 36.7%), UTSA (37.5%), Utah State (36.4%) and San Jose State (21.9%).
The Mavericks will face UC Irvine in the Ramada Worldwide BracketBusters on Feb. 23 at 5 p.m. at College Park Center. The WAC is participating in the 11th annual Ramada Worldwide BracketBusters event, a two-day men's college basketball event pitting potential NCAA Championship hopefuls against each other Feb. 22-23. Six teams from the WAC are taking part: Utah State, Texas State, UTSA, Denver, UT Arlington and Idaho.
