MBB: Mavs snap skid, beat UTSA 75-67
Jordan Reves' season-high 21 points helped UT Arlington snap a three-game losing in Thursday night's 75-67 Western Athletic Conference victory over UTSA at the Convocation Center.

ARLINGTON, Texas - UT Arlington looks for a home sweep Saturday night as in-state rival UTSA visits College Park Center. The Mavericks opened up the two-game Western Athletic Conference homestand by beating Lone Star State foe Texas State on Thursday. Tipoff against the Roadrunners is 7 p.m.

UTSA is coming off Thursday's 74-49 setback at WAC leader Louisiana Tech. UT Arlington is 11-9 overall and 6-5 in conference, while the Roadrunners 5-17 and 1-11.

The Mavericks won the season's previous meeting, 75-67, on Jan. 10 in San Antonio. UTSA leads the all-time series 37-28. UT Arlington coach Scott Cross is 7-6 against the Roadrunners.

The Mavericks are coming off a 75-50 rout of Texas State. Kevin Butler scored a season-high 21, knocking down four 3-pointers along the way. UT Arlington drilled 9 of 18 from deep as a team. Karol Gruszecki scored 12 points, Brandon Edwards grabbed 11 rebounds and Jordan Reves pulled down 10.

UTA remains one of the nation's stingiest defensive units. The Mavs are sixth in the country and first in the WAC in defensive field-goal percentage at 36.4 percent. UTA has held 14 of 20 opponents to less than 40-percent shooting: CSUB (26.6%), Oklahoma (32.8%), Samford (37.3%), North Texas (31.0%), UTPA (32.7%), HBU (30.9%), NMSU (33.3%), Denver (37.8%), LA Tech (28.4% & 36.7%), UTSA (37.5%), Utah State (36.4%), San Jose State (21.9%) and Texas State (22.6%).

The Mavericks will face UC Irvine in the Ramada Worldwide BracketBusters on Feb. 23 at 5 p.m. at College Park Center. The WAC is participating in the 11th annual Ramada Worldwide BracketBusters event, a two-day men's college basketball event pitting potential NCAA Championship hopefuls against each other Feb. 22-23. Six teams from the WAC are taking part: Utah State, Texas State, UTSA, Denver, UT Arlington and Idaho.
