ARLINGTON, Tx. - A LOOK AT THE MAVERICKS The UTA Mavericks are back in action as they return to the road at Southeastern Louisiana Wednesday...the Mavericks enter tonight's game 13-10 overall and 6-4 in the West Division of the Southland Conference after their 84-82 win over UTSA Saturday...the Mavericks have won their last 3 games which ties a season-high set 2 previous times...UTA is 9-4 in its last 13 games...the Mavericks have 6 conference wins already this season after having 7 last year.
NEW HOME FOR MAVERICKS The UT System Board of Regents approved funding for UTA's Special Events Center last week...the new home of the Mavericks men's, women's basketball and volleyball teams is expected to open for the 2012-13 season...the new arena is expected to seat 6,650 for basketball.

MAVERICKS HEAD COACH Scott Cross Scott Cross is in his 3rd season as the head coach at UT Arlington...he has a career coaching record of 47-39 (.546)...he has a career SLC regular season record of 21-20 and 3-1 in the conference tournament...he has a career record of 1-1 vs. SELA...Cross led the Mavericks to their first-ever NCAA Tournament in 2008 after winning the Southland Conference Tournament...in 2008 he led his team to a school-record 21 victories and his team completed a school record 17-game home winning streak (3 games in `07 and the first 14 of `08)...a 1998 graduate of UT Arlington, Cross was a 2-time Academic All-American at his alma mater where he lettered 3 times from 1995-98.

This is the 22nd meeting between the schools...UTA leads the series 17-4 which includes a series lead of 6-4 in games played in Hammond...the Lions have won the last 3 games in Hammond and the home team has won the last 7 games in the series.
VEREEN EARNS SOUTHLAND CONFERENCE HONORS Anthony Vereen was named the Southland Conference's Men's Co-Player of the Week along with Nicholls State forward Ryan Bathie, the SLC announced Monday. It is the second time Vereen has won the honor this season (Week ending Dec. 21). Vereen led UTA to a pair of wins last week against McNeese State and UTSA, averaging 21 points and 8.5 rebounds.
ROAD WORK Tonight's game is the 16th game away from home for the Mavericks...the Mavs are 6-8 in road games (6-9 overall away from home)...the 6 road wins is tied with UTSA and Sam Houston State for the most in the Southland Conference...the Mavericks won 4 non-conference road games this season against Division I opponents which is the first time in school history this has happened...UTA won 5 non-conference road games in 1965-66 and 1966-67 but some of the opponents were not D-I...the Mavs also won 4 in 1980-81 but one of the wins was a non D-I victory...the school record for road wins in a season against Division I opponents is 8 set in 1980-81 and 1990-91...the 1980-81 team holds the school record for most road victories with 11.
LAST GAME - UT ARLINGTON 84, UTSA 82 Marquez Haynes scored 27 points and hit the game-winning jumper with 4.4 seconds left to give UT Arlington an 84-82 victory against UTSA on Saturday. The Mavericks (13-10, 6-4 Southland) blew a five-point lead in just 14 seconds late in the game. Travis Gabbidon converted a three-point play with 24 seconds remaining, then hit two more free throws after a foul by Haynes with 10 seconds left. Haynes also had seven rebounds to lead the Mavericks, who got 21 points on 7-of-9 shooting from Anthony Vereen. Gabbidon led the Roadrunners (15-8, 6-4) with 18 points, half of those coming on free throws. He led UTSA with seven rebounds, while Morris Smith had 16 points.
SO FAR SO GOOD AGAINST OTHER SIDE OF THE CONFERENCE Tonight's game is one of 4 of 5 for the Mavericks against a team from the Southland Conference's East Division...after the win over McNeese State, UTA has won all three of its previous games against the East Division...5 of the Mavs final 9 conference games are against the East Division.
VEREEN AMONG A SELECT FEW Earlier this season senior Anthony Vereen became the 18th player in school history to score 1,000 career points...he now has 1,353 and is in 4th place on the all-time list (Paul Renfro is 3rd at 1,380)...he also recently became the 18th player in UTA history to register 500 or more rebounds and now has 547 career boards (13th)...he is just the 9th player in school history to have 1000 points and 500 rebounds.
ONE MORE IN THE 1,000-POINT CLUB Roge'r Guignard became the lastest UTA player to move past the 1,000-point in his career...Guignard is now the 19th player to score at least 1,000 points after Anthony Vereen accomplished the same feat earlier in the season...Guignard comes into tonight's game with 1,039 career points which is 17th on the all-time list (John Shelton is 16th at 1,048)...the junior also has 271 career assists and tied for 9th on the UTA all-time assists list...he is just the 4th player in school history to have 1,000 points and 270 assists.
DEFENSE! CONTINUED The Mavericks have held their last 2 opponents under 40% from the field which is the first time do accomplish this season...during this stretch they have held the opposition to just 33.1% (69-208) from the field...this includes 31.9% (23-72) vs. McNeese State and Northwestern State to an opponents' season-low 29.2% (21-72).
ONLY ONE IN THESE THREE The Mavericks are the only team in the Southland Conference to be ranked in the top 3 in scoring (78.7, 2nd), field goal percentage (47.2%, 3rd) and free throw percentage (74.2%, 1st).
