ARLINGTON, Texas - UT Arlington sophomore point guard Erick Neal was named Sun Belt First Team All-Conference, the league announced today.

"Erick has really done an awesome job running our basketball team," UT Arlington coach Scott Cross said. "He has made it his No. 1 priority to make his teammates better and that is what we want out of our point guard. Our assist numbers have been astronomical this year and Erick is big reason why we are having so many assists. I am very happy that the rest of the coaches in the league recognized and appreciated his pass-first mentality."

Neal topped the Sun Belt in assist average for both the regular season (6.2) and in league play (6.8). For the season in the Sun Belt, the sophomore from Dallas Lincoln is 14th in scoring (13.0), third in steals (1.5), first in assists/turnover ratio (2.8) and eighth in 3-pointers made (2.1).

Neal recorded the first triple-double in school history with 27 points, 10 rebounds and 12 assists at ULM on Jan. 28. He also racked up two more double-doubles. Neal is currently fourth on UTA's single-season assist list with 186.

He has scored in double figures 21 times, including five games of at least 20, and has dished out at least five assists in 22 games. Neal was named College Sports Madness Sun Belt Player of the Week on Nov. 23.

Neal is the third UTA student-athlete to earn Sun Belt all-conference honors. Reger Dowell was named first team and Brandon Edwards was third team, both in 2014.

The Mavericks (22-9) open the Sun Belt Championship on Friday at 7:30 p.m. against Thursday's Georgia State-Texas State. Visit UTA Championship Central for ticket and game information on the Sun Belt Championship.
