ARLINGTON, Texas - UT Arlington men's basketball coach Scott Cross announced the signing of Jorge Bilbao to a National Letter of Intent on Tuesday. The 17-year-old forward is from Bilbao, Spain.
"Jorge is a 6-8 forward that has a tremendous feel for the game," Cross said. "He can score in multiple ways and is very good at attacking the basket. He can score on the block, can shoot, and has a special ability to pass the basketball.
"He has a very good work ethic and will get better each and every day here at UT Arlington. I am really looking forward to working with him and to watching him grow as a basketball player.
Bilbao led Loiola Indautxu to nationals in the U18 Basque Country League last season. At 6-foot-8, he can play both forward positions. He's considered a face-up offensive player with a 3-point range and strong ball-handling skills.
Bilbao has played with the Loiola Indautxu senior team since 2010. He was the leading scorer and rebounder, and named MVP of the Euskadi Regional Championship for 2012-13. Bilbao averaged 30.1 points and 13.8 rebounds during the 2012-13 season.
Bilbao graduates from high school in June and will have four years of eligibility. UT Arlington is joining the Sun Belt Conference on July 1.
