Former UTA men's basketball player Derrick Obasohan signed a one-year contract to play professionally in the Belgian Basketball league next season.

Obasohan played the 2004-05 season with Eztella Ettelbruck in the Luxembourg DBBL where he earned first-team all-league and the Defensive Player of the Year after averaging 25.8 points and 8.8 rebounds per game. He also led Eztella to a Luxembourg Cup Championship and to the DBBL League Final.

Obasohan will play for the Verviers-Pepinster in the Belgian Basketball League. Training camp begins Aug. 15 for Verviers, a team who hopes to improve on their eighth-place finish last season.

Obasohan earned first-team All-Southland Conference honors in 2003-2004 and is ranked fourth on UTA's all-time scoring list with 1,308 points.
