ARLINGTON, Texas – Former UT Arlington standout Derrick Obasohan signed with AS Monaco Basket in France.
Obasohan, 32, played in three leagues in two countries last year. He played most recently at Cholet Basket in French ProA. In 19 games, he averaged 7.2 points, 1.9 rebounds and 1.1 assists. Obasohan also played four games in Eurocup where he had very impressive stats: 15.5 points, 3.3 rebounds and 1.0 steals. He also played at Boca Juniors (LigaA) in Argentinian league that season. In four games, he averaged 6.3 points, 3.3 rebounds and 1.0 assists.
Obasohan played at Cocodrilos (LPB) in Venezuelan league in the summer of 2012. He averaged 6.3 points and 2.0 rebounds in three games. He played a full season in 2012 in for FIATC Joventut (Liga Endesa) in Spanish league, averaging 9.2 points, 2.1 rebounds and 1.3 assists in 34 games.
In 2010-11 season Obasohan played at Trabzonspor (TB2L) in Turkish league, helping the team to the Turkish Cup Semifinals. In 2009-10 season Obasohan played for Hyeres-Toulon (ProB), averaging a team-high 19.8 points. He was selected to Eurobasket.com All-French ProA Honorable Mention and to the All-Star Game.
Among other achievements his team was regular season runner-up in Venezuelan LPB in 2012. Obasohan received also Eurobasket.com All-Luxembourg League Defensive Player of the Year award in 2005. He represented Nigeria at the Olympic Games in London in 2012 last year.
Obasohan attended UT Arlington until 2004. This is his 10th season in pro basketball.
