ARLINGTON, Texas - UT Arlington sophomore forward Jorge Bilbao was selected to play in the 2014 Basket Basque Tour for the Basque National Team, which will compete against both the Angola and Philippines national teams leading up to the FIBA World Cup.
Basque takes on the Philippines on Tuesday and Angola the following day. Bilbao is one of two current NCAA players on the national team, along with Aitor Zubizarreta from the University of Portland.
"This is a tremendous opportunity for Jorge to gain valuable international experience," UT Arlington coach Scott Cross said. "Playing for your country is an honor that not many players earn. I'm confident Jorge will return to UT Arlington a better player for it."
Bilbao played in 30 games as a freshman last season (starting 10), and averaged 1.5 points and 2.8 rebounds in 10.8 minutes per game. He scored a career-high six at South Alabama on March 8, and grabbed a season-best seven rebounds on two occasions.
