The UT Arlington men's and women's basketball teams will kick off the 2007-08 season with Maverick Madness - a night of fun, games and a chance to meet the 2007-08 basketball teams prior to their first official practice of the season.

The event begins at 6:30 p.m. with free food at the Maverick Activities Center, 500 West Nedderman Drive. Free t-shirts to the first 250 fans will be available.

Men's head basketball coach Scott Cross and women's coach Samantha Morrow will speak to the crowd. A three-point shooting contest and slam dunk contest will be part of festivities as well as the introduction of the new UT Arlington mascot.

The women's team will host Texas Woman's University in an exhibition game on Thursday, Nov. 1 at Texas Hall at 7 p.m. The season opener is Nov. 9 at Northern Arizona with the first home game set for Nov. 12 against Pittsburg State at 5 p.m. as part of a season-opening doubleheader with the men's team.

The men's team returns its top 10 players, including all-conference center Jermaine Griffin and forward Anthony Vereen. The Mavericks open the season Nov. 12 against UC Riverside at 7:30 p.m.
