ARLINGTON, Texas - The UT Arlington men's and women's basketball teams will kick off the 2008-09 season with Maverick Madness held at Texas Hall on Friday, October 17 following the volleyball game against Central Arkansas at 7 p.m.
The events are set to begin following the conclusion of the volleyball match where free t-shirts will be given to the first 250 fans and free Papa John's pizza will be available from 6-7 p.m.
A three-point shooting contest and slam dunk contest will be part of festivities as well as performances by the UT Arlington Dance Team, Cheerleaders and a drawing for Dallas Stars tickets.
The men's squad finished the 2007-08 campaign with a 21-12 overall record and a trip to the NCAA Tournament. UT Arlington opens the season at home against Hardin-Simmons on Nov. 15 at 8 p.m.
The women's team will host two exhibition games prior to the season opener at Conference-USA-opponent SMU on Friday, Nov. 14 at 7 p.m. The first home game is slated for 6 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 26 versus Midwestern State.
