ANTHONY VEREEN & ROGE'R GUIGNARD NAMED PRESEASON ALL-SLC
Oct. 21, 2008 Preseason All-Southland Conference Teams
KATY, Texas - UT Arlington senior Anthony Vereen and junior Roge'r Guignard have been named to the Preseason All-Southland Conference Second Team, which was announced today by the Southland Conference league office at SLC Basketball Media Day at the Merrell Center in Katy, Texas. The conference office announced its preseason All-SLC first and second teams, with eight of the 10 players chosen earning an automatic selection as a returning All-SLC selection. Guignard, a 5-foot-11 guard from Mesquite, Texas, was an automatic selection after earning Third Team All-SLC recognition as a sophomore. Guignard had a breakthrough season in 2008, setting a UT Arlington single-season record with 99 three-pointers - which also led the Southland Conference. In 2008, Guignard averaged 12.9 points per game and led the Mavericks with 52 steals and averaged 31.6 minutes per contest. Vereen, a 6-foot-7, 245-pound forward is returning for his senior season after being named the SLC Tournament Most Valuable Player last season. A native of Houston, Vereen led the Mavs in scoring while coming off the bench in 23 of 33 games. He ranked ninth in the SLC in scoring (13.8 ppg.) and was fourth in the league with a .568 field goal percentage. Vereen's top performances at the end of the season helped guide the Mavericks to their first-ever SLC championship. He scored at least 20 points in five of the Mavericks' last six games, including 20 points against Memphis in the first round of the NCAA Tournament.
