ARLINGTON, Tex. - The Texas Legends selected former UT Arlington standout Anthony Vereen in the sixth round of the NBDL Draft on Thursday night.
Vereen, who ranks ninth on the UTA career rebounds list, played the last two seasons in China before getting the opportunity to come back and play in the United States.
"You always want to come back home where you have had success," Vereen said. "It's a blessing and I am really thankful for it. You hear stuff and when I worked out for them and I felt really good about it, but you never know in this business. I was definitely hoping it would happen."
UT Arlington coach Scott Cross said he is not surprised by Vereen's recent successes.
"Anthony is one of the best, most skilled back-to-the-basket players that I have ever seen or coached," Cross said. "He is extremely coachable and he shoots the ball very well. He is extremely intelligent and I think he has a very bright future ahead of him."
