UT Arlington-North Texas game notes
UT Arlington looks to equals its best start in program history as they meet unbeaten North Texas, Wednesday at Texas Hall. Tipoff is at 7 p.m. UTA can match the 1992-93 squad's 4-0 start with a win.
The UT Athletic Athletics Department Food Drive continues at the UTA-UNT game. Persons who donate can enter to win free burritos for a year, courtesy of Chipotle. The winner will be drawn at halftime of the game.
GRIFFIN WINS WEEKLY AWARD
Senior center Jermaine Griffin was named the Southland Conference Player of the Week for the first week of the season after 16 points and 14 rebounds in a 79-58 win over UC Riverside on Nov. 12.
UT Arlington has won eight straight games at Texas Hall dating back to Jan. 25, 2007. A win Wednesday would give the Mavs nine straight at home and their second longest home court winning streak since 1959. The school record is 12 straight at Texas Hall during the 2003-05 seasons... Jermaine Griffin became the first Mav since Mack Callier to record three straight double figure rebounding games with a 10-rebound effort at Arkansas-Little Rock Sunday... Callier had 10-or-more rebounds from Feb. 10, 2001 through Feb 17, 2001. The last Mav with four straight games was 1998 by Bill Washington... UTA is rated No. 68 in the Sagarin ratings for games through Nov. 19. North Texas is ranked 96th... UTA received five votes in this week's www.collegeinsider.com Top 25 Mid-Major Poll for Nov. 19... UTA's top four guards - Rod Epps, Rog'er Guignard, Cardell Hunter and Brandon Long - are 21-of-23 at the foul line (91.3%).
UT Arlington trails the all-time series, 25-19, but UTA has won the past three meetings, including a 70-67 decision the last time these two teams met at Texas Hall on Feb. 3, 1996.
