ABOUT DALLAS BAPTIST: In one of the top performances in DBU basketball history, Jonathan Perry, poured in 47 points in leading the Patriots to an 89-80 win over visiting Southeastern Oklahoma State University on Nov. 26. Perry's 47-point explosion breaks the single-game DBU scoring record, previously held by Nick Fox, who tallied 41 points on Nov. 23 of last year. The Patriots are 3-3.
LAST TIME OUT: UT Arlington's bid for its first win against Texas in nine attempts fell short on Friday night. The Longhorns rallied to top the Mavericks 72-69 at the Frank Erwin Center. Shaquille White-Miller put UTA up 69-68 with two minutes to go when the senior hit a deep 3-pointer as the shock clock expired. However, two turnovers plagued the Mavericks late and Texas (6-1) posted back-to-back buckets to push ahead. Senior guard Reger Dowell had an attempt to tie the game, but his half-court attempt as time expired went wide. Dowell led UTA's offense with 17 points, snapping his streak of 20-point games at seven. Senior forward Brandon Edwards totaled 16 points, while grabbing a team-high seven boards. Junior guard Jamel Outler ended with 14 points, shooting 3-6 from behind the arc. The Mavericks had three double-digit scorers in a first half, taking a 41-33 lead into the break.
QUOTABLE: "The team is starting to understand that you have to do little things to win games. You have to keep your hands up when the pass is made. You have to say ball on the floor. Guards have to help block when their man is in transition. All those little things winning basketball teams do and losing teams don't do." - Coach Scott Cross.
20-20 VISION: Senior G Reger Dowell is 10th nationally in scoring at 23.6 points per game. Dowell scored career-high 35 (tied for 20th in UTA history) vs. Howard Payne and scored at least 20 in the first seven games of the season. That streak was snapped Friday at Texas with 17 points.
BOARD MACHINE: Senior F Brandon Edwards is 14th nationally in rebounding at 10.6 per game. He has five double-doubles this season and had a streak of four in a row snapped at Texas. He began season 17th on UTA's all-time rebounding list and is now up to ninth. Edwards also scored a career-high 30 points at Eastern Michigan.
STARTING SLOW: UT Arlington is on a five-game losing streak, the program's longest since losing six straight during the 2010-11 season. The Mavericks are 0-5 on the road for the first time since the 2002-03 season.
BUSY, BUSY: UTA has packed quite a few games into a small space already this season. The Mavericks have already played a stretch of three games in four days (Nov. 12-15) and three games in five days (Nov. 19-23).
SPREADING THE WEALTH: At least four Mavs scored double figures in five games this season: Boise State (4), Samford (5), Howard Payne (4), Robert Morris (5) and Texas (4).
ROTATING PIVOTS: Cross has used three starting lineups through eight games. Dowell, Edwards, junior G Lonnie McClanahan and junior F Vincent Dillard have started all eight games. The center position has seen three different starters: junior Stuart Lagerson (4 starts), freshman Jorge Bilbao (2) and junior Anthony Walker (2).
TRIPLE DIGITS: UTA's 111 points vs. Howard Payne (11/13) were most since 124 vs. Sam Houston State (12/28/98) and tied for 18th all-time in school history.
SCORING BIG: UTA scored at least 87 in the first three games. The last time UTA had such a stretch was four in a row from Dec. 1-11, 1992: 91 (Concordia-Lutheran), 121 (Schreiner), 105 (Sul Ross State), 95 (Gonzaga).
MAVERICK DEBUTS: Six players made their UTA debuts at Boise State: Dowell, G Lonnie McClanahan, Dillard, F Jorge Bilbao, F Brandon Williams and G Courtney Austin. Four of the five starters at Boise State didn't play at UTA in 2012-13: Dowell, McClanahan, Dillard and C Stuart Lagerson, who redshirted last season.
