UT Arlington Head Men's Basketball Coach Scott Cross announced the signing of 6-foot-10 post Jordan Kinnear of Canyon (Texas) Randall High School and Jon Miller, a 6-5, guard from Flower Mound (Texas) Marcus High School to national letters of intent to play for the Mavericks in the 2008-09 season.
"Both are players we had at the top of our list and wanted from the beginning," said Cross. "They have tremendous upside and are both hard-working players who will do well in the Southland Conference. They each fill a need with the loss of Jermaine (Griffin) and Rod (Epps) this season. Each will have the opportunity to come in and make an immediate contribution."
Ranked by TexasHoops.com as one of the top 100 seniors this season and to the top 50 on Texas Prep magazine, Kinnear was named to the All-Panhandle Plains Preseason Super Team. He was a second team all-district player as a junior and freshman. Last year is averaged 10.1 points, 12.2 rebounds and 2.4 blocks per game.
Kinnear chose UTA over Wichita State, Texas A&M, Oral Roberts, Nebraska, Tulsa, Rice and Liberty.
Miller averaged eight points for Marcus High School as a junior as FMMHS finished 29-7 and advanced to the regional semifinals before losing to Mansfield Summit High School. He earned honorable mention all-district honors last season and is currently ranked 49th in the state by TexasHoops.com. He chose UTA over Idaho, Lamar and Santa Clara.
