MAVERICKS STUMBLE AT SAWGRASS

PONTE VERDE BEACH, Fla. - The UTA men's golf team made a two stroke improvement between rounds one and two, but it was not enough to keep up with the nation's best golfers as they slipped to 12th place after the second day of the Mercedes-Benz Collegiate Championship at Sawgrass Country Club here Monday.
UTA fired a second round 307 and stand at 40-over-par 616. UCLA held off a late charge by Texas Tech and continues to lead the tournament at 16-over-par 594. Tech fired a 295 and have a two-day total of 596. Georgia State and LSU are tied for third at 598. Florida had the day's best round with a one-over-par 289 and moved from 15th to seventh place.
UTA is four strokes behind eighth-place Auburn (612). UTA will pair with Tennessee (613) and Missouri (613) on the final day.
UTA sophomore Zack Reeves (Arlington, Texas) is tied for 10th in the medalist play after a second round 74 and stands at five-over-par 149.
Tyrone Mordt (Johannesburg, South Africa) went three-over-par on the final seven holes to finish with a 76 and sits tied for 32nd at 153. Junior Michael Douthit (Palestine, Texas) shot a four-over-par 76. Junior Ryan Zamorano (Dallas, Texas) had an 81 while Jeff Murray (Odessa, Texas) finished with an 83.
