MG: Mavs sit 8th at UTSA Oak Hills Invitational

SAN ANTONIO, Texas - The UT Arlington men's golf team tied for eighth after the first two rounds Monday of the UTSA Oak Hills Invitational. The two-day event concludes Tuesday with the third round at Oak Hills Country Club.
Leading the way for the Mavericks in the team competition was Ryan Fleming, who shot a 4-over par 145 through two rounds to sit tied for 15th overall. Hunter Brown is one shot back of Fleming and tied for 18th.
Paul McConnell (150, T44), Brad Mason (151, T47) and Cash Wilkerson (161, T81) round out the UT Arlington fivesome. The Mavericks shot 592 as a team for a plus-24 on the day after completing the first round at 6-over.
"It was cold and windy all day," UT Arlington coach Jay Rees said. "We got off to a good start and turned in a competitive first round.
"Unfortunately, I felt we made some bad swings and did not manage the course well in the afternoon. We have to get better and prove we can be consistent on the 36-hole day."
Cameron Hollek, competing as an individual, was tied for 52nd with a two-round total of 152.
North Texas (571) is leading going into the final round. Oklahoma (574) and host UTSA (575) are second and third, respectively.
