GOLF FINISHES FIFTH AT UCF/RIO PINAR INTERCOLLEGIATE

ARLINGTON, Texas - The University of Texas at Arlington golf team fired a final round 292 to finish fifth at the University of Central Florida/Rio Pinar Intercollegiate at the Rio Pinar Country Club in Orlando, Fla. South Alabama won the tournament in a playoff over the host UCF. UTA finished just two shots behind last year's Southland Conference champion Lamar. Senior Landon Allen (Corsicana, Texas) finished tied for second place after shooting the round of the day with a 66 in the final round. Allen was just three strokes back from the individual champion after shooting a 74 in the first round and a 71 in the second round. His final round 66 ties for the fourth lowest round in school history and his three-round 211 ties him for the seventh lowest 54-hole score in school history. USA's Gareth Maybin won the tournament after shooting an eight-under-par 208. Sophomore Tyrone Mordt (Johannesburg, South Africa) also turned in a solid performance as he finished in a tie for 10th place after shooting 54-hole total of 217. Other Mavericks playing in the tournament were freshman Michael Douthit (Palestine, Texas) finished tied for 38th, freshman Marc Campbell (Southlake, Texas) tied for 67th, and sophomore Pete Pennington (Granbury, Texas) tied for 75th. The Mavericks return to action on March 8-9 when they travel to Myrtle Beach, S.C. for the Coastal Carolina Invitational.
