PALM DESERT, California -- Tanner Gore catapulted 17 places to tie for 11th in the individual rankings and UTA men's golf tied for 15th at the Wyoming Desert Intercollegiate this weekend at the Classic Club.
Gore tied for 28th after Round 1 on Friday, firing a 74 followed by 69 and 71 in the final two days to turn in an overall 2-under 214. All five Mavericks lifted their individual rankings on Day 3, finding strength in the ability to finish strong despite a low outcome. UTA finished with a plus-29 893 (310-288-295) in their season-opening tournament.
No. 10 Oregon remained in control of the leaderboard all weekend and held on to clinch the championship with a 26-under performance. The top four finishers were all nationally ranked programs. No. 24 Colorado became the runner-up, followed by No. 5 Texas Tech, while No. 34 Kansas and TCU tied for fourth.
Seniors Zach Galliford and Josh Radcliff both tied for 58th. Galliford was plus-3 on Sunday to settle at 225, while Radcliff jumped 11 slots with 74's in the final two rounds. Aaron Guanlao improved six seats after turning in a plus-13 229. Nick Barney added to his 241 total with 78-marks in Round 1 and 2.
The Mavericks return to action Feb. 27-28 at the Louisiana Classics at the Oakburne Country Club in Lafayette, La.
