Feb. 23, 2014
PALM DESERT, California – UT Arlington senior Brad Mason finished tied for 10th to lead the Mavericks to a ninth-place finish after Sunday's final round of the Wyoming Cowboy Desert Intercollegiate.
UT Arlington was the highest-finishing Sun Belt Conference program in the deep 23-team event, placing ahead of UL Lafayette (11th) and UALR (22nd). The Mavericks also finished higher than Big 12 programs Texas Tech, Kansas and Kansas State.
Mason fell out of tie for third after firing a 2-over-par 74 in the third round. He finished the tournament with a 4-under 212 at The Classic Club, a 7,305-yard course.
"The freshmen led us today. I think we will take a lot of positives from this week. A top 10 finish in this field says we're getting better."
UTA's other team finishers were freshman Josh Radcliff (T31, 215), freshman Zach Galliford (T42, 217), junior Joss Gosling (T62, 221) and junior Jake Argento (T87, 226). Junior Marley Sweeney (T87, 226) competed as an individual.
Oregon won the team title and Julien Brun from TCU was the individual medalist. Mason started the day tied with Brun.
The next tournament for the Mavericks is the Querencia Cabo Intercollegiate beginning March 2.
"We had another great opportunity getting to travel to Cabo, Mexico and play against arguably the best field we have faced all year, including No. 1 Alabama. We will work all week getting ready for Cabo."
