HOUSTON - The UT-Arlington men's golf team shot an opening day score of 16-over-par 592 to occupy eighth place at the Houston All-AMerican Invitational here Monday.
Host Houston posted the top two team scores of the day - a 284 and 282 - to build a seven shot lead over Big 12 foe Colorado.
Junior Michael Douthit (Palestine, Texas) had the top Maverick score with an even-par 144 after rounds of 73 and 71. Marc Campbell (75-74) is tied for 28th at 149. Zack Reeves (74-76) sits at 150, senior Tyrone Mordt (77-74) had a 151 an d junior Ryan Zamorano (75-77) came in at 152.
Ten strokes behind Colorado is Kansas (583), followed by Memphis (584), Louisiana-Lafayette (587), Mi9ddle Tennessee State (588), Southeastern Louisiana (589) and UTA (592).
The third and final round is Tuesday at the par-72, 7,220-yard Tradition course at the Cypresswood Golf Club.
