Laredo, Tex. -
The UT Arlington golf team completed the 60th annual Border Olympics in 12th place but Zack Fischer was able to post another top-10 finish.
The Mavericks finished just six shots out of the top-10 as they finished with a team score of five-par. They also finished ahead of two BCS schools in Washington State and Kansas State.
Among Southland Conference teams in the tournament, the Mavericks finished just behind Lamar but defeated Texas State and UTSA.
"After winning last week I thought we were going to play a little better than we did this week," UTA head coach Jay Rees said. "But Zack played well and had a good finish. We are a month out from the conference tournament and we just need to keep getting better as we prepare for those three days."
Fischer shot a four-under 68 Saturday to finish in a tie for eighth place and a six-under total of 210. The senior carded five birdies to go against just one bogey on his card.
Paul McConnell was also under par Saturday with a two-under 70, which was his low round of the tournament and he finished in a tie for 27th at one-under 215. He had four birdies Saturday.
Wes Worster finished in a tie for 57th with a seven-over score of 223 after shooting 77 Saturday. Other UTA finishers included Brady Lyle and Carson Kallis who each finished in a tie for 79th at 10-over 226. Lyle shot 75 Saturday while Kallis carded a 77.
Arkansas won the team title with a score of 32-under while Rice's Michael Whitehead won the tournament with a score of 19-under after shooting a 62 Saturday.
