GOLF TEAM IN FOURTH PLACE AT COWBOY CLASSIC

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. ... The University of Texas at Arlington's golf team finds itself in fourth place at the Cowboy Classic in Scottsdale, Ariz., 12 shots behind the leader after the first two of three rounds. Meanwhile, UTA's Anthony Estorga enters the final round of play tied for fourth place individually, just one shot behind the leaders.
The Mavericks trail a pair of junior varsity teams and the tournament host. San Diego State's JV squad owns the lead after shooting 291-289=580 on the first day, two strokes better than the Arizona State JV team. ASU shot 293-289=582. Wyoming, who is hosting this tournament in Arizona, shot 299-291=590, two shots better than UTA's 302-290=592. Oklahoma City University rounds out the top five with scores of 302-293=595.
Individually, Estorga is tied with three others for fourth place. Estorga shot 74-71=145, just one shot behind a trio of leaders. Brett Johnson and Charley Simon of the Arizona State JV team and Gilberto Rodriguez of the San Diego State JV squad each shot 144 over the first two rounds on the par 70 course.
Texas-Arlington's Jordan Krantz joined Estorga in the top 10 with rounds of 75 and 72 for a 147 total. Krantz is tied for ninth place. UTA's Tyrone Mordt is in 21st place after shooting 76-74=150 and Brandon Mullen and Garry Antunes are tied for 27th place among the field of 58 golfers with 36-hole scores of 152. Mullen shot rounds of 79 and 73, while Antunes shot 77 in the first round and 75 in the second.
The tournament concludes Wednesday afternoon.
