NCAA Fayetteville Regional
"The course played easier than I thought it would, but I had a couple bad swings that led to doubles," McConnell said. "I think if I can swing well on every shot, the putts will fall tomorrow and I'll put up a good score."
The field is compiled of 14 teams and five golfers competing as individuals. McConnell finished the day with a score of 74 and is tied for 25th.
Illinois is leading the pack with a team score of 282 and the Fighting Illini's Charlie Danielson is leading all golfers at 7-under 65.
"Paul hit the ball great today, just had a couple of mistakes out there today," UT Arlington caoch Jay Rees said. "He needs to have a good putting round and he will be under par.
"He is in good spirits and he feels like he can shoot a good score tomorrow."
The second of three rounds is Friday. McConnell needs to finish among the top two individuals not associated with an advancing team to qualify for the NCAA Championship.
