MG: Mavs are tied for ninth at NCAA Regionals

ATHENS, Ga. -- The UT Arlington sits tied for ninth place at the first round of the NCAA Regionals, hosted by the University of Georgia. The Mavericks shot a 1-over-285.
Paul McConnell, Hunter Brown and Cameron Hollek each shot a 1-over-70 at the University of Georgia Golf Course. The trio is tied for 17th in the individual standings. Jamey Taylor is tied for 62nd after a 75, with Pierre Carlsson (T67) coming in with a 77.
"We had a good day today," UT Arlington coach Jay Rees said. "We finished strong with Cameron making birdies on the last two holes for 70. Jamey made birdies on the last two for 75. Hunter and Paul both made birdies on one of their final holes as well. I expect
"We are within four shots of fifth place. That is very encouraging. We still have room to get better out there. But the guys are in good spirits and I expect us to have a good week."
Alabama leads the 13-team field with a 25-under-par 269. New Mexico is tied with UTA at 1 over. The three-round regional picks up Friday with the final round Saturday.
The low five teams and the low individual not on those teams from each regional will advance to the finals. The NCAA finals will be conducted May 29-June 3, at The Riviera Country Club in Pacific Palisades, California.
