MG: Mavericks shoot up Kiawah Island leaderboard
UT Arlington men's golf shot up the leaderboard Monday at the Kiawah Island Invitational. The three-day event at The Ocean Course concludes with Tuesday's third round.
The Mavericks find themselves in strong position to contend for a top 3 finish after Monday's 4-over-par 292. The second-round surge allowed UTA to jump from 11th after the first round to fourth place.
"Anything in these conditions 76 or better is competitive considering how hard this course is," UTA coach Jay Rees said, referring to wind gusts of around 30 mph. "If we do this tomorrow we could still be near the top. We just have to eliminate big numbers and three-putts."
Florida leads the 15-team field with a plus-1 577. The Mavs (plus-26 602) also trail Houston (597) and College of Charleston (600).
