CORVALLIS, Ore. - UTA golfers Tyrone Mordt (Johannesburg, South Africa) and Jordan Krantz (Vermillion Bay, Canada) fired rounds of 71 and 70 to lead UTA to a final round total of 290 and a tie for second place at the 2004 NIKE/Northwest Collegiate Classic here Tuesday.

The Mavericks' 54-hole total of 859 ties for the fifth lowest score in school history matching the score of the Long Beach Invitational in 2000 and the Northwest Collegiate Classic in 2001. The runner-up spot was the best finish since winning the Beau Chene Classic on Feb. 20, 2002.

"This is a great start to the season," said UTA Head Golf Coach Jay Rees. "I thought we performed well the first day and were able to hang on to second place (today). We made some mistakes on the final 18, but hopefully we learned from those mistakes and can build on this momentum."

Host Oregon State blistered their home course -- The Trysting Tree Golf Course on the OSU campus -- with a tournament record 26-under-par 838 to claim the title. Beaver Jonathan Green broke the medalist mark with a three-round total of 203 (65-70-68).

Mordt was the only UTA golfer to finish in the top 10 with an eighth-place finish at three-under-par 213. Marc Campbell finished the tournament even par 216 and Krantz, who had the team's best score on the final day, tied for 21st at 217.
