RUTHER GLEN, Va. - The UT Arlington men's golf team scored a final round 11-over-par 299 to finish 13th at the VCU/Mattaponi Springs Shootout at the Mattaponi Springs Golf Club here.
Penn State and Louisville tied for the tournament title at 13-under-par 851. Charlotte (853), Indiana (854), Wisconsin (857), Kent State (863), Xavier (871), UNC Wilmington (874), Wichita State (875) and Maryland (878) round out the top 10. Virginia Commonwealth (883), VCU "B" (885), UT Arlington (889), UNC-Greensboro (901) and Richmond (906) complete the 15-team field.
Junior Zack Reeves (Arlington, Texas) was the only Maverick golfer to finish in the top 20 with a final round two-over-par 74 to finish at 218 to tie for 20th (75-69-74). Reeves rallied late in the day with three birdies over four holes to draw to even-par before a double bogey on his final hole of the day, the par-4, ninth hole to finish with the 74.
Freshman Bryce Easton (Petoria, South Africa) shot a four-over-par 76 on Tuesday to finish at 222 (73-73-76). He went double bogey, bogey on the last two holes and five-over-par the final six holes after beginning the day one-under through the first 12 holes.
Senior Ryan Zamorano (Dallas, Texas) tied for 37th with a 74 on the final day for a three-day total of 222 (75-73-74).
Freshman Michael van de Venter (Centurion, South Africa) went one-under-par over his final nine holes to finish with a 75 for a 54-hole total of 227 (76-76-75).
Freshman Travis Watson (Dallas, Texas) struggled to a final 84 for a 21-over-par 237 (76-77-84).
Wisconsin sophomore Dan Woltman scored a final round 67 to win the medalist title with a 14-under-par 202 to defeat Kent State's Marc Bourgeois by three shots.
UT Arlington returns to action at the 2006 Wolf Pack Classic, Oct. 2-3, at the Wolf Run Golf Club in Reno, Nev.
