Mavs finish 7th at Cabo Collegiate
Oct. 4, 2010
Baja California Sur, Mexico -
UT Arlington finished seventh at the Cabo Collegiate Monday after the team shot a tournament best 292 in the final round.
The Mavericks improved each round from a first round 304 to a 294 Sunday and the final 4-over team score on Monday.
UTA was looking at breaking out of a large collection of teams that were bunched together after the second round, but like the Mavericks, each of the teams ahead of them improved to their best round of the tournament to keep the Mavs in seventh.
"We thought if we could have our best round of the tournament we would have a chance to move up the leaderboard but that didn't happen today," UTA head coach Jay Rees said. "We played better each round and we just need to keep improving and have a good finish to the fall portion of our season."
The top individual finisher for the Mavericks was freshman Enrique Livas who shot a 2-under 70 Monday to finish in a tie for 12th at 2-over 218. However, Livas was playing as an individual and hence did not count toward the team's overall score.
Zack Fischer Paul McConnell each finished the tournament at 6-over 222 to tie for 22nd to lead the Mavericks in the team competition. Wes Worster shot a 5-over 77 in the final round and fell out of the top 10 as he finished in a tie for 26th at 7-over 223.
Arkansas shot an 11-under 277 to win the tournament with a score of 854. The Razorback's Jamie Marshall won the tournament with a 5-under score of 211.
UTA will be back in action this weekend at the Brickyard Collegiate in Macon, Georgia.
