UTA'S ALLEN FINISHES TIED FOR 11TH AT SMU STONEBRIDGE INVITATIONAL
Oct. 14, 2003
ARLINGTON, Texas - The University of Texas at Arlington golf team looked to make a move on the final day of the SMU Stonebridge Invitational, but that was not the case as the Mavericks struggled on the final 18 holes and shot a 316 to place 16th. Notre Dame was tied for the lead after the first round and never relinquished a hold on the top spot as the Fighting Irish held off a late charge by Lamar to hold on for a one stroke victory. LU's Chris Stroud enter the final day six strokes behind the leader Colt Knost of SMU, but turned in the round of the day by shooting a seven-under-par 65 to defeat Knost, who shot a one-under-par 71, by one shot. The Mavericks were led throughout by senior Landon Allen who entered the final round tied for 13th place and shot a three-over-par 75 to finish in a tie for 11th place. The 11th place finish is the highest finish for Allen in his UTA career. The Mavericks return to action on Oct. 20-21 when they head to Ruston, La. for the Louisiana Tech/Squire Creek Invitational.
