CABO SAN LUCAS, Mexico - UT Arlington freshmen Riley Fleming is tied for fifth and the Mavericks are tied for seventh as a team after Sunday's first round of the Querencia Cabo Collegiate. The three-day tournament continues with Monday's second round before concluding on Tuesday.
"The winds blew 25-30 mph, so anything 75 or better was a good score today," UTA coach Jay Rees said.
Fleming shot a plus-1 73 at the par-72 Querencia Cabo Golf resort. Rounding out the five-man team are senior Cameron Hollek (T12, 74), senior Hunter Brown (T31, 77), junior Brad Mason (52, 82) and senior Paul McConnell (T53, 83). Only the top four scores are used in tabulating the team leaderboard.
UTA sophomore Cash Wilkerson, playing as an individual, is tied for 12th after a plus-2 74.
"Our goal is low round of the day," Rees said of Monday's second round. "If we do that we still have a chance to win on the final day."
Ole Miss leads the 12-team field after the first round with a plus-8 296. Complete results are available at host Santa Clara's website.
