Golf in first after day one of Lone Star Invitational

San Antonio, Texas - The UT Arlington golf team leads the Lone Star Invitational after 36 holes in what will be their final fall tournament of the season.
The team was able to shake off their first round slow starts that have hurt them this season to post a 3-over 291 over the first 18 holes. However, it was in their second of the day in which the Mavericks have taken control of the tournament.
Four golfers broke par in the round and the Mavericks shot a combined 10-under 278 for a 36-hole total of 7-under 569 which is eight shots better than second place Notre Dame.
"I'm really rpud of the way we came out in the second round," UTA head coach Jay Rees said. "We had a lot of low numbers today and it has put us in a position to win the tournament. Hopefully we can come out tomorrow and do just as well."
UTA's Wes Worster is leading the tournament with after shooting rounds of 69 and 70 to stand at 5-under 139.
Paul McConnell is in a tie for third at 2-under 142 after rounds of 73 and 69. Freshman Jesse Gibson rebounded from a 75 in the first round to a 3-under 69 in round two and is in a tie for 11th at even par.
Carson Kallis is playing as an individual and he shot a 2-over 146 and is also in a tie for 22nd.
