San Antonio, Texas - The UTA golf team stands in fifth place after the first day of the Lone Star Invitational in San Antonio.

As has been the case for a majority of this season, junior Zack Fischer leads the way. He is in a tie for fifth with a three-under score of 141. He started Sunday's action with a three-over 75 before coming back strong in the second round with a six-under 66 for his lowest round of the season.

The Mavericks find themselves in fifth position after carding a nine-over team score of 585. UTA shot an 11-over 299 in the first round and then came back in the afternoon with a two-under 286 in the second round.

Other UTA golfers include Wes Worster (+4, T21), Bryce Easton (+6, T28), Bobby Massa (+9, T37) and Donald Dowie (+10, T44).

Defending national champion Texas A&M leads the field, made up of all schools from Texas, at 10-under while Texas is second at even par.

The final round will be played Monday at the Briggs Ranch Golf Club.
