UTA GOLF FIRES SECOND LOWEST ROUND OF THE DAY TO FINISH THIRD AT THE SQUIRE CREEK INVITATIONAL

ARLINGTON, Texas - The University of Texas at Arlington golf team turned in its best performance of the fall season as the Mavericks shot a 300 on the final day of the Louisiana Tech/Squire Creek Invitational to finish in third place with a three round total of 898, just three strokes behind the tournament champion Arkansas-Little Rock. The Mavericks final round total was just one shot back of the best round of the final day. Fellow Southland Conference school Lamar shot a 299 for the best round of the day. As a team, the Mavericks led the entire field by collecting 41 birdies in the three rounds. The Cardinal's Chris Stroud shot a final round 66 to take home the individual championship. Senior Landon Allen continued his strong play as he maintained his hold on third place by shooting a final round 76 to finish with a three round total of three-over-par 219. Allen was the second best golfer in the tournament on par four's, as he was even through the entire tournament and ranked fourth with 12 birdies. Junior Tyrone Mordt turned in the second best score of the final round as he fired a 72 to move from 12th place heading into the final round to a fourth place finish, just one shot behind Allen. Mordt led the Mavericks and was tied for fifth in the entire field with 35 pars. Sophomore Pete Pennington (77-75-80=232) and freshman Mitch Boles (78-77-77=232) each finished in a tie for 38th, while freshman Chris Myers (78-81-75=234) finished in a tie for 48th place. The Mavericks close out the fall season on Oct. 27-28 as they head to Gulf Shores, Ala. for the South Alabama/Fall Beach Classic.
