MOBILE, Ala. - The UTA men's golf team will have to play catch if they hope to win a third consecutive tournament this fall.
The Mavericks' fired an opening two-over-par 290 to stand in second place before stumbling with a seven-over-par 295 to slip into fourth place, nine strokes back of leaders Southern Mississippi and Louisville at the Fall Beach Classic here Monday.
Junior Tyrone Mordt (Johannesburg, South Africa) was one of only eight golfers to shoot under-par with a 36-hole total of two-under 142, three shots behind individual leader Justin Elliott of Southern Mississippi.
Sophomore Marc Campbell (Southlake, Texas) had a 74-72-146 to stand in a tie for 11th. Senior Jordan Krantz (72-75-174) is tied for 14th. Junior transfer Jeff Murray (Odessa, Texas) overcame a sprained ankle that limited in practice time the past two weeks to stand in 29th place after rounds of 75-76-151. Zack Reeves (Arlington, Texas) had a season-high round of 80 in the afternoon to sit at 154 and tied for 40th.
Final round play begins at 8 a.m. (ET) Tuesday on the 7,239-yard, par-72 Falls Course at Magnolia Grove Golf Club.
