EL DORADO, Ark. - Senior Zach Galliford registered his second top 10 finish of the fall season to lead the UT Arlington men’s golf team in its final competition of the fall season at the Duck Commander Intercollegiate at Mystic Creek Golf Club.
The Mavericks turned in scores of 304-301-307 for a 48-over par 912 and finished in sixth place to earn their fourth straight top 10 team finish of the year.
Arkansas State earned the team title by two strokes over runner-up Stephen F. Austin. The Red Wolves, along with 44th ranked Oregon State, turned in the lowest round of the day at 15-over par 303 en route to a 36-hole score of 36-over par. Little Rock finished in third place, just ahead of host ULM. Oregon State finished in fifth place, eight strokes ahead of UT Arlington.
Galliford, the 2016 Welsh Amateur champion, posted scores of 75-72-76 for a 3-day total of 7-over par 223. He finished tied with Arkansas State freshman Zan Luka Stirn for eighth place in the 60-golfer field.
Arkansas State junior Tanner Napier earned medalist honors at 5-under par 211, finishing five strokes ahead of ULM’s Hogan Arey. Napier was the only golfer in the field to register a 36-hole score under par. Seven of the top 10 golfers were from Sun Belt Conference programs.
UTA junior Aaron Guanlao recovered from a difficult second round to finish tied with golfers from Louisiana Tech and ULM for 14th place. The Haslet, Texas native improved by five strokes over yesterday’s round to post scores of 74-78-73 for a 9-over par 225. He entered his final three holes at 3-over par before posting consecutive birdies on hole nos. 4 and 5 and concluding his round with a par to finish at 1-over.
Sophomore Tanner Gore and junior Nick Barney, along with Oregon State’s Kevin Murphy, tied for 27th place at 17-over par. Junior Will Dennis, playing as an individual, finished tied for 52nd at 28-over, while senior Josh Radcliff ended the tournament in 56th place.
The Mavericks return to competition on Feb. 17-19 at the Wyoming Desert Intercollegiate at Classic Club in Palm Desert, Calif. UTA plays six regular season tournaments during its spring season prior to the annual Sun Belt Conference Championships in late April at Raven Golf Club in Miramar Beach, Fla.
