LITCHFIELD PARK, Ariz. – UT Arlington’s Jake Argento and Marley Sweeney joined other All-Americans from NCAA Division I, II, III, as well as All-Americans from NAIA and JCAA at The Patriot All-America Invitational at The Wigwam Arizona held from Dec. 28-31.
Argento, a junior transfer from Chandler, Ariz., led the duo with an 11-over 221 in the three-round event to tie for 34th, while Sweeney shot a 16-over 226 to finish in a tie for 49th.
Argento collected five birdies overall and had an even-par 70 in the second round. Sweeney finished with 10 birdies, including five in the final round, to rebound from shooting 15-over through the opening two rounds.
Air Force Academy’s Kyle Westmoreland defeated Toni Hakula from Texas in a six-hole playoff. Westmoreland sunk a three-and-half foot birdie to clinch the championship at the Gold Course, as both players shot a 5-under 205 to advance into the playoff.
The UT Arlington golf team begins its 2014 schedule at the Wyoming Cowboy Desert Intercollegiate in Palm Springs, Calif. on Feb. 21.
