UT Arlington opens the 2007 spring schedule as they compete at the Rio Pinar Invitational.

The Mavericks will be making their third straight appearance at the Rio Pinar, including 2006 when the Mavs finished third in the field of 18 teams with an 893, 16 strokes behind champion Lamar (877).

Head coach Jay Rees will start three freshmen in this week's tournament - Bobby Massa, Bryce Easton and Michael van de Venter. All three started at least one tournament during the fall season.

Participating Teams (Feb. 11, 2007, ranking according to Golfweek.com): Tenn.-Chattanooga (64), Furman (165), Georgia Southern (48), Kansas State (118), Louisville (17), Memphis (784), Mercer (154), Mississippi (67), Mississippi State (59), Missouri (120), Ohio State (69), South Alabama (99), South Florida (93), Southern Mississippi (176), Tulsa (18), UNC-Wilmington (132), UT Arlington (127), Wichita State (70).

UT Arlington is ranked 127 by Golfweek/Sagarin College rankings.

About Rio Pinar
Located in Southeast Orlando, Fla., Rio Pinar Country CLub is one of the oldest clubs in the South. The course has hosted numerous professional events and the Florida State Golf Association Championship. (see course information on front page).

Looking for a Top-5 Finish
After 10 top-five finishes in 13 tournaments during the 2005-06 season, UT Arlington is looking for its first top-five finish this season.

All-Time Leaders
Junior Zack Reeves' average of 73.61 last season was third best on the career single-season average. Former Mav Shad Muth's 73.48 stroke average over 72 rounds is the all-time best at UT Arlington. His current average of 73.69 would be fourth best in a single season.
