ARLINGTON, Texas -- With the first tournament of the spring season under its belt, UTA men's golf looks to bounce back at the 32nd annual Louisiana Classics beginning Monday in Lafayette, La.
The 15 teams will compete at the Oakburne Country Club, a par-72, 6,898-yard course, on Monday and Tuesday. The Mavericks will be represented by Zach Galliford, Aaron Guanlao and Josh Radcliff. Will Dennis and Sully Billingsley will also travel for the first time this season.
The tournament begins at 8 a.m. Monday with a shotgun start, and Round 2 will start following the conclusion of the first. The final round gets underway at 7:30 a.m. on Tuesday. Fellow SBC member Louisiana will host four teams that appeared in Golfweek's Top-25, including No. 2 Illinois, No. 5 LSU, No. 22 Texas A&M and No. 23 Kent State. Illinois has claimed the championship four years running.
Joining those programs will be UTA, Toledo, UTSA, Texas State, Sam Houston State, Southern Miss, Southeastern Louisiana, LA Tech, UMKC and Southern Illinois.
The Mavericks finished seventh out of 12 teams at last year's Louisiana Classics. UTA is coming off of a weekend in Palm Desert, Calif. that saw it improve each day, first earning 19th before ending in a tie for 15th.
Oakburne Country Club was founded in 1955 and currently ranked fourth-best in the state of Louisiana by Golf Digest Magazine. It's home to former PGA Champion brothers Lionel and Jay Hebert.
