Arlington, Tex. - For the first time in a month the UT Arlington golf team will be in action as they participate in the 2011 San Diego Intercollegiate Classic on March 14-15 at the San Diego Country Club in Chula Vista, California.
It has been a month since the first spring tournament for UTA and during that time head coach Jay Rees has had a chance to work with his team and try to move up leaderboards as the season kicks into full swing.
"We did not have the finish that we wanted to at the Battle at the Beach but we have had a good three weeks of practice since then and I know we will play better in San Diego," he said.
Rees' team for the 54-hole event will consist of Zack Fischer, Wes Worster, Paul McConnell, Carson Kallis, Hunter Brown and Brad Lyle. Fischer and Kallis were the top individuals at the Battle at the Beach as they finished in a tie for 35th. Brown and Lyle will be playing for the first time this spring.
The tournament is identical to the last one as all six of the players will play for UTA and the top five scores will count unlike the usual play five, count four format.
San Diego Country Club will play to a par of 72 and 7,050 yards and the teams will get started Monday with a 36-hole shotgun start beginning at 8:00 am. Tuesday's final round is 18 holes with tee times from 7:45 a.m. to 9:39 a.m. off holes 1 and 10.
Besides UTA and the host the University of San Diego other teams in the field include Air Force, CSU-San Marcos, Colorado State, Fresno State, Hawaii, Long Beach State, Nevada, Point Loma Nazarene, San Diego State and SMU.
Live scoring for the event will be available at golfstat.com.
