LAREDO, Tex. - The UTA golf team is in fourth place after the first day of the annual Borders Olympics Tournament in Laredo, Texas.

The Mavericks were in first place after shooting a two-under par team score of 286 in the first round but then carded a team mark of 302 in the second round. Their two round score of 12-over par 588 is just nine shots behind first place Baylor.

Junior Bobby Massa is in second place as he shot 66 in the first round and 73 in the second round for a five-under score of 139.

Following Massa were Michael Van deVenter who shot four-over 148 (70-78) and is in a tie for 22nd and Bryce Easton who shot seven-over par 151 (75-76) for a tie for 42nd.

Kevin Carrigan shot nine-over par 153 (75-78) and is in a tie for 51st and Zack Fischer who is at 10-over 154 after rounds of 79 and 75. He is in a tie for 60th.

The tournament concludes Saturday with a one 18-hole round at the Laredo Country Club.
