UTA gets final swings in before SLC Championships at 55th Border Olympics

LAREDO, Texas - The UTA golf team rallied from a sluggish morning round to post a two-over-par 290 to move into a 13th-place tie after the opening day of the 55th Border Olympics at Laredo Country Club here Friday.

The third and final round of the tournament is slated to begin at 8 a.m. Saturday.

UTA is tied with Southland Conference member Southeastern Louisiana at 13-over-par 589. Southern Methodist leads the 17-team field by 11 strokes after an impressive opening day of 18-under-par 558. The Mustangs and Baylor were the only teams to post sub-par scores in each round played.

UTA was led by Marc Campbell with a 36-hole score of two-over-par 146. He played par golf during the second round of the 71,25-yard, par-72 layout. Other UTA scores include: Jordan Krantz (73-74-147), Landon Allen (74-74-148), Chris Myers (78-72-150) and Tyrone Mordt (80-72-152).

Five Southland Conference schools are competing in this events - the final tune up before the 204 Southland Conference Golf Championships April 12-13 at High Meadow Ranch G.C. near Magnolia. Three-time defending SLC champ Lamar is in fifth place with a 574, UTA and Southeastern Louisiana are tied for 13th while UT-San Antonio (594) and Texas State (599) are 15th and 17th place, respectively.
