Mavericks tie for 10th in final tune up before SLC Championships

LAREDO, Texas - The UTA golf team climbed up the standings with a final round six-over-par 292 to tie for tenth place at the 53rd annual Border Olympics at the Laredo Country Club here Saturday.

UTA tied North Texas with a 54-hole total of 881, 17-over-par on the 7,125-yard, par-72 layout.

SMU won the tournament going away as they finished 12-under-par 852. Baylor (859) and Brigham Young (862) finished second and third, respectively.

Other Southland Conference schools include: Lamar (9th/877), Southeastern Louisiana and UT-San Antonio (tied for 12th/881) and Texas State (17th/908).

Individually, UTA's Marc Campbell tied for 23rd with a three-over-par total of 219. He fired a final round 73 to go along with scores of 74 and 72. Landon Allen (74-74-72) had a 72 on he final day to finish at 220. Jordan Krantz posted rounds of 73, 74 and 75 to finish the tournament at 222. Tyrone Mordt rallied after an opening round of 80 to post back-to-back 72s to finish at 224 and Chris Myers finished the tourney 228 (78-72-78).

UTA will compete at the 2004 Southland Conference Golf Championships April 19-20 at the High Meadow Ranch G.C. in Magnolia, Texas.
